FX has a show called 'DVD on TV' which typically features a Fox movie and some of its DVD extras. The show is hosted by ex-MTV VJ Dave Holmes, and some blonde model co-host (the name escapes me). Anyway, they showed Bachelor Party last night, and Adrian Zmed was in the studio as a special guest. He talked about his experience in making the film, and gave some "zen master tips" to having a succesful bachelor party. Dave asked Adrian about footage that didn't make it to the film, and Adrian told an interesting story about a deleted scene that he felt should've stayed in:
Basically, before the party really gets going, Jay (Zmed) and Rick (Hanks) head downstairs to a coffee shop that, at the time, was inside the hotel. Jay picks out a booth, and they sit down. After they sit down, there is the sound of a zipper being undone. Apparently Jay had a hooker waiting under the table for Rick! As she begins, er, 'servicing' Rick, Jay says, "This is my wedding present to you, pal!" Rick begans making exclamations along the lines of "sweet mother of Jesus", just as the priest that's going to marry Rick and Debbie happens to walk in to the coffee shop, and recognizes Rick and Jay. The priest hears Ricks quasi-religious shouts, and Jay explains, "He always prays out loud before he eats, Father." A strange outtake, indeed.
I can understand this footage being dropped. How is an audience going to sympathize with the groom-to-be when he has cheated (albeit involuntarily) on his fiancee? I'm guessing the director didn't want to taint Rick's 'good guy' image, especially this early in the film.
This increases my hope of an interview with Zmed for the website. This is his second TV appearance in the past 6 months where he is talking about Bachelor Party. I just need to stop being lazy, and fire off a letter to him.
