Why does Tom Hanks always seem to shy away from discussing his role in Bachelor Party? OK, so he's not as young as he used to be and may feel a little embarassed by the movie granted, but surely even he has to acknowledge that Bachelor Party has a HUGE cult following and that this movie was one of his funniest ever! Hanks was at his best doing Comedy. It's one of the hardest things to get right, and he was a natural.

Funny you should ask. I've been looking all over the web for interviews where Tom mentions Bachelor Party, and I couldn't find anything! I never really knew where he stood on this film. It's clearly his best comedic role, and comedy *was* what he did best.
I was just reading an interview with Bobcat Goldthwait last night, and he says that he has no problem with the Police Academy films he was in, but he doesn't fool himself into believing it was anything great. Tom might feel this way about BP.
I bet he hasn't watched the movie in years, and if he were to pop in the DVD now, he might find himself saying, 'you know, I was really funny back then!"

I once saw an interview with Tom after he made Philadelphia. He was asked a question like "Aren't you concerned what your children will think of you portraying a gay man with AIDS?" Tom's answer was "I'm more concerned what they'll think of Bachelor Party!" He should be proud of this movie. It's one of the best ever!

I heard a radio show hosted by Sam Rubin a couple of years ago in Los Angeles on 97.1 where Tom Hanks was promoting Road to Perdition and Catch Me if You Can. In the interview he was candid about many subjects such as where he surfs, what he thinks of his son's career and so on. He then was asked by a caller about Bachelor Party and his experiences. He changed the subject until another caller said how much they loved Bachelor Party and how it has lived on in Cult fame for them and their friends all these years. Tom laughed and said that he was told this on many occasions and is directly asked about Bachelor Party more than any of his other roles. He then said that it was very fun to make that film, but he didn't feel like he was a great actor at that time, so to get comments on Bachelor Party more than his other work annoys him.

Interesting. Glad that Hanks 'faced the music' regarding BP, seems like no matter what he does his role as Rick will always follow him around wherever he goes.
I think he needs to swallow his pride a bit more and just accept it for what it was, a classic cult movie which thankfully he appears to have done in that particular interview.
